Rick Dobson
From a very young age, I have been fascinated by the natural world. I spent all of my free time outdoors hiking, camping, canoeing, and observing nature, and I have always felt that being alone and immersed in Canada’s wilderness is one of life’s most rewarding experiences. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, which is the capital city of Canada.
As a teenager, I first became interested in photography after taking a high school course in the subject. Years later, in 2007, I was introduced to bird photography and it quickly became my life passion. It gave me the perfect opportunity to be outdoors—observing and experiencing nature—while capturing images of birds and animals.
My Snowy Owl and Great Grey Owl images have been featured in magazines and newspapers in North America and Europe. They have attracted the attention of professional and novice photographers from around the world. As a result of this interest, I have guided and led successful Snowy Owl workshops for the past six winters.
Now I devote my winters to locating and photographing snowy owls. Having spent thousands of hours and many winters locating, observing and photographing snowy owls, I have become extremely knowledgeable about the unique behaviour and habits of these magnificent owls.
The gracefulness and beauty of these majestic owls is all inspiring and keeps me coming back to photograph them winter after winter, year after year, day after day. Photographing them is something I will never grow tired of.
